Civil Service Commission
About the Commission
The Civil Service Commission provides by rule for assessment of merit and fitness for appointment and promotions in City employment. The Commission also handles appeals from disciplinary actions such as transfers, reductions, or removals. Such rules are adopted in the sole discretion of the Civil Service Commission and prevail over, conflicting State of Ohio statutes, rules or regulations.
Currently only full time Police and Fire/EMS Personnel are covered by North Canton civil service provisions. Individuals may apply for these positions at any time by completing the Civil Service Employment application found here and returning it to the Civil Service Commission. If there is no currently pending test for the positions being applied for applicants will be notified when the next test is announced. Applications must be printed and notarized. There are notaries on staff at North Canton City Hall who may assist applicants. Notaries are entitled to charge up to $5 for their services. Such notary fees are charged by the notary and not by the City of North Canton.
The Commission consists of three members appointed by the Mayor on a volunteer basis. The Commission meets as needed to address concerns or hold tests.
Agendas & Minutes
Agendas are available prior to the meetings. Minutes are available following approval. For either document, please contact the Civil Service Secretary.
