Parade, Assemblage, and Block Party Permits

  1. Welcome to the City of North Canton Parade & Assemblage Permit Application!

  2. North Canton Codified Ordnance 311.02 PARADES AND ASSEMBLAGES, provides "No person, group of persons or organization shall conduct or participate in any parade, assemblage or procession other than a funeral procession upon any street or highway, or block off any street or highway area, without first obtaining a permit from the Police Chief.

  3. Applications for events utilizing City-owned property must be submitted at least 20 days prior to the date of the event for the City to coordinate reserving locations, City-employee work schedules, and planning traffic detours in order to ensure the free passage of traffic and the prevention of public disorder. Applications for block parties, however, given the anticipated smaller size and more private locations, must be submitted only at least 5 days prior to the desired date of the event.

  4. Fees

  5. Although there are no costs for a parade, assemblage, or block party permit, if the event requires public safety or other City services to block streets, direct traffic, and prevent the interference with the use of streets for public safety--the primary purpose being travel and transportation--fees for such services must be paid in advance of the event. Fees for traffic control are dependent on such factors as time, date, route length, the number of participants, and the number of vehicles. As a cost-free alternative, the use of City sidewalks and parks is free.

  6. 1st Amendment Assemblies

  7. The City of North Canton respects the rights of all people to peaceably assemble. It is our policy to not unreasonably interfere with, harass, intimidate, or discriminate against persons engaged in the lawful exercise of their rights, while also preserving the peace, protecting life, and preventing the destruction of property. The City requires an Assemblage Permit prior to the event if you request road closure(s) or blockage(s). If you choose not to obtain a permit, the organized event must remain on private property with the owner's permission, utilize a public sidewalk while permitting the unfettered passage of others, together with obeying all traffic signals when crossing intersections, or utilize the area of a City park that has not been rented by another.
