John Minock Announced as Chief of Police

Mayor David Held has announced that John R. Minock will be appointed as the next Chief of Police for the North Canton Police Department. Former Police Chief Stephan Wilder retired in March after serving more than 35 years with the city. Minock served with the police department as an unpaid Auxiliary Officer in 1986 and moved to part-time status in October 1988. He was sworn in as a full time patrolman in January 1989 and promoted to Sergeant in 2011. He served over 10 years in and eventually became in charge of the Detective Bureau. He served in many other functions with the department including with the first bicycle patrol unit and the Child Abuse Task Force. Upon being promoted to Lieutenant in 2015 he assumed the responsibilities of all the uniformed patrol officers. John scored the top score on the recent Civil Service promotional exam. John Minock grew up in North Canton, graduated from Hoover High School in 1982 and lives in the city with his wife Christine to whom he has been married for over 26 years. John’s father James who passed away in 2007 had previously served over 12 years as an Auxiliary Officer with the department. …
