Each year, every Fire Department must test all the departmental hose. NCFD has hand lines of 1 3/4″ and 2 1/2″. We also have supply hose of 3″ and 4″ which totals to almost 16,000 feet of hose to test. The testing ensures safety to the firefighters when we use them on fire scenes. Each hand line hose is tested at 300 psi of water pressure for three minutes, and the supply lines are tested at 200 psi of water pressure for 3 minutes. If any of the hoses leak or break during the testing procedure, they are taken out of service and evaluated if they can be fixed or not. If the hose needs to be replaced, it is approximately $400.00 per 50 foot.
