Fourth Annual Community Freedom Summit in Fight to End Human Trafficking

Saturday, September 24, 2022

For the past four years, Walsh University and Not For Sale: One Step At A Time have joined the fight to end human trafficking by hosting a Community Freedom Summit and Freedom Walk.

For the past four years, Walsh University and Not For Sale: One Step At A Time have joined the fight to end human trafficking by hosting a Community Freedom Summit and Freedom Walk.  This year’s event will take place Saturday, September 24, from 9-11:30 a.m., in the Marlene and Joe Toot Global Learning Center at Walsh University.

This year’s event will focus on the topic of labor trafficking.  Attorney Megan Mattimoe will deliver a powerful keynote educating guests on this topic both locally and globally.  Harold D. Souza will share a powerful testimonial of his experience being trafficked and how he is using his past pain to change the world! In addition, several community partners will be in attendance, passing out free educational resources.  The event will end with a powerful, one-mile Freedom Walk in silence to reflect on those who have been silenced through the tragedy of human trafficking.

Last year, nearly 550 students joined community members in walking single file in silence.  In addition, more than 100 student-athletes whose teams were traveling or competing and could not participate on Saturday, coordinated their own walk Friday evening to show solidarity with their fellow classmates in support of victims and survivors.
