City of North Canton-Jackson Township Proposed Shared Development Agreement

City of North Canton and Jackson Township Establish Foundations for Proposed Shared Development Agreement, Hope to Collaborate to Promote Job Creation and Economic Opportunities

The City of North Canton is excited to announce that we have laid the foundations for a historic economic development agreement with Jackson Township! The proposed agreement would involve certain properties between Wise Ave. NW and the railroad tracks from the southern end of Wise Ave. NW to Applegrove St. If adopted, the agreement would enable the City and Jackson Township to work together to provide essential services and promote the creation of jobs and economic opportunities for our communities.

The fair allocation of taxes and service responsibilities between the two localities was a key consideration in this initiative. The proposed agreement would allow property tax revenues from the included land to remain with Jackson Township, while the City of North Canton would receive income tax revenues. Jackson Township would retain jurisdiction and responsibility for Police, Fire, EMS, street, storm and sanitary sewer services for these properties, while the City would have jurisdiction and responsibility for building, permitting, zoning, drinking water, source water protection, and all other services beyond Jackson Township’s purview.

The first consideration of this agreement will be this coming Monday, September 11 at the North Canton City Council. Our localities then intend to hold a joint hearing hosted by Jackson Township on Tuesday, October 17 for public input.

We are glad and hopeful to have the opportunity to work with our neighbors in Jackson Township for the benefit of both localities and the larger Stark County community. To learn more about the proposed agreement, check out this week's Council Agenda!
